Burės – Financing Solutions for Good Ideas What is Burės Burės has started off in the end of 2009 as a programme of a Lithuanian nonprofit Bendruomenių kaitos centras (Community Change Centre). Mission Burės aims to provide non-grant financial solutions, enabling to unlock the potential of nonprofits, local communities and social entrepreneurs. The mission of Burės is to catalyze entrepreneurship and innovation and promote merging of social value with financial viability as a new mindset within the society. Our philosophy is to advance good causes, achieving this by good means. Burės commits to be ethical and transparent in its relationship to clients as well as provide high standard competitive financial services. Likewise, Burės considers only projects, which combine financial viability with tangible social and environmental value, and which are ethical, fair and community-based. Our Clients Burės targets individuals and groups which seek to implement project ideas contributing to Burės mission. Typically Burės’ clients fall into categories of non-profits, community groups and social entrepreneurs. In considering projects, Burės looks not only for commercial return. It seeks to strike careful balance between commercial gain and social value. Our Achievement so Far Burės is progressing towards becoming a hub of financial solutions, linking project ideas to a variety of financial services. Burės started out with a small fund of €40,000 of its own money. During the pilot stage, this capital was used to develop Burės products and was invested in loans, which are being successfully repaid and reinvested. In November 2011 Burės has launched an ‘Invest with Burės’ website, generating crowd-sourced financing for start-ups selected by Burės. Visitors to the website are invited to pay in advance for a product or service this way pooling funds necessary to kick-off the new enterprise. |
